ORGANIC MATTERS, by Alex Noonan

Why go organic? ...according to Sharon McGlinchy, founder of  MV Organic Skincare, “ There is a growing concern that daily exposure to the harmful ingredients found in some skincare products could be producing adverse long-term effects."

Does Natural Count? ”By using non-organic ingredients you won’t achieve the some health benefits for your skin” explains McGlinchy.

How long will my buys last? “Organic brands with a ‘serious’ or ‘high’ concentration’ will use natural preservative systems and anti-oxidants to support the shelf life” explains McGlinchy.. "These generally give anywhere from a 12 to 24 month shelf life. By comparison, commercial products usually have a three – year shelf life."

Few people realise that a 100 per cent organic skin cream is very difficult to achieve”, says Sharon McGlinchey holistic beauty therapist and creater of MV Organic Skincare. “ The problem lies in emulsifying oils and water to make a cream. All emulsifiers are to some extent synthetics and, therefore, not organic.” McGlinchey can achieve 99 per cent organic content in her facial oil blends which don’t need to be emulsified, while her creams are around 85 per cent.

The women who are benefiting most from suing high concentration organic skincare are those who have highly reactive skin, allergies and sensitivities. People with eczema , dermatitis, rosacea and psoriasis – until recently – felt they had no choice but to use pharmaceutical preparations such as steroid creams and coal tar preparations. Most of these people have, at some stage, tried a natural product but have still been disappointed that their skin still reacted.

This is because ‘natural’ is not always natural. Whereas high concentration organic generally has no pesticide residue or any other possible skin irritants. Currently MV is Australia’s only prestige high concentration organic skincare company to be recognized by the Cancer Research Centre of America for formulation safer cosmetics.
