The Organic Beauty Queen: Sharon McGlinchey, creator of MV, features
as one of Australia's next generation of innovators.
Why are organic ingredients good for the skin? Because
they have no pesticide or chemical residue, so the skin accepts the
purity more readily than ingredients with potentially harmful substances
and the underlying skin tissue is much healthier.
What inspired you to start the business? A client with a
severe petrochemical sensitivity came to me more than 15 years ago and I
was forced to research ingredients. Once I opened up the cosmetic
industry “can of worms” there was no going back.
What advice would you give to people starting their own
business? Get into something with low overheads. Online businesses
are the way of the future. If you have a sensitive product such as
organic skincare, avoid distributors. Try to sell direct.
Proudest moment? It’s a toss up between Maggie Gyllenhaal
emailing me to say how much she loved MV. And a beautiful email from
Sam Sparro telling me he’d tried everything for his sensitive skin and
nothing had worked like MV.
